Ruhr University Bochum, Germany -
Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) is one of Germany's leading research universities. The University draws its strengths from both the diversity and the proximity of scientific and engineering disciplines on a single, coherent campus. This highly dynamic setting enables students and researchers to work across traditional boundaries of academic subjects and faculties.

The Professional School of Education (PSE) at Ruhr-University Bochum (RUB) awards a doctoral scholarship within the framework of the doctoral program “Metacognitive Monitoring in Authentic Teaching/Learning Contexts at the Student Laboratory” (MeMo-akS). The doctoral program includes five doctoral projects in total, their topics are specified at
http://www.pse.rub.de/sites/forschung/gsoes/promotionskolleg_MeMo-akS/Kurzbeschreibungen_MeMo-akS.pdf

The doctoral program MeMo-akS draws on the research on the topic of authenticity of knowledge transfer in student laboratories, carried out in the first two cohorts of the doctoral program (http://www.pse.rub.de/sites/forschung/gsoes/promotionskolleg.php) and links it with the field of research on metacomprehension. The research on metacomprehension deals with metacognitive self-assessments of learners and aims amongst other things at (a) identifying reasons for inaccurate self-assessments of learners, (b) investigating the consequences of inaccurate self-assessments and (c) developing measures for increasing the accuracy of self-assessments. In this context, five interdisciplinary projects in total are being developed, each of which includes a doctoral project.

The advertisement refers to one of these projects entitled “Reading like the pros: Supporting calibration of metacognitive judgments when reading multiple documents” (Prof. Dr. Marc Stadtler & Prof. Dr. Nicola Brauch).
