Ben jij gedreven in het doen van onderzoek? En geïnteresseerd in hoe onderwijsinnovaties een succes kunnen worden? Wij zoeken per 1 maart 2019 een postdoctoraal onderzoeker onderwijsinnovatie.

De nieuwe medewerker zal deel uitmaken van de programmagroep Onderwijswetenschappen. Binnen deze programmagroep wordt onderzoek gedaan naar de invloed van onderwijsbeleid, schoolorganisatie en leeromgeving op de kwaliteit van onderwijsleerprocessen. Het programma wordt gekenmerkt door aandacht voor de verwevenheid van (innovatie)vraagstukken op het microniveau van leerling en leraar, het mesoniveau van de schoolorganisatie en het macroniveau van onderwijssysteem en -beleid. De postdoctoraal onderzoeker zal samenwerken met de programmagroep Ontwikkelingsproblemen en Onderwijs.

De programmagroep maakt deel uit van de afdeling Pedagogische en Onderwijswetenschappen (POW). De afdeling is verantwoordelijk voor het onderwijs en onderzoek in de pedagogische en onderwijswetenschappen van de UvA. Medewerkers van de afdeling participeren in het College of Child Development and Education (bacheloronderwijs pedagogische wetenschappen, onderwijswetenschappen en Universitaire Pabo van Amsterdam (UPvA), de Graduate School of Child Development and Education (masterprogramma’s pedagogische wetenschappen, onderwijswetenschappen, lerarenopleiding en PhD-opleiding), het Research Institute of Child Development and Education (pedagogisch en onderwijswetenschappelijk onderzoek) en Research Priority Area Yield (multidisciplinair onderzoek naar de menselijke ontwikkeling).
Wat ga je doen?

Je gaat meewerken aan de coördinatie en uitvoering van een langlopend praktijkgericht NRO-project dat zich richt op de factoren die een succesvolle grootschalige implementatie van het online computerprogramma Bouw! voor de preventie van leesproblemen mogelijk maken. Dit onderwijsinnovatieproject wordt uitgevoerd in samenwerking met de Samenwerkingsverbanden Hoeksche Waard en De Eem. Binnen het project worden een aantal studies gedaan naar de wijze waarop schoolkenmerken (leiderschap, professionalisering) en netwerken voor kennisuitwisseling tussen scholen (onder andere via een online gebruikersplatform) de kwaliteit van de implementatie van Bouw! beïnvloeden.

Je coördineert projectwerkzaamheden, zoals het bijwonen en verslagleggen van bijeenkomsten van het projectteam, en monitoren van projectvoortgang.

Je voert daarnaast een drietal onderzoeken uit waartoe behoren:
  • literatuurstudie; 
  • ontwerpen vragenlijst en interviewleidraden; 
  • gegevensverzameling (vragenlijsten, focusgroepen en interviews) en
  • rapportage in praktijkgerichte publicaties en wetenschappelijke publicaties.
Wat heb je hiervoor nodig?
Je hebt:
  • een afgeronde dissertatie in de onderwijswetenschappen, pedagogische wetenschappen, psychologie of sociologie;
  • kennis van de praktijk van het (basis)onderwijs; 
  • uitstekende onderzoeksvaardigheden blijkend uit publicaties in internationale tijdschriften; 
  • ervaring met empirisch onderzoek; kennis van geavanceerde statistische technieken strekt tot aanbeveling; 
  • affiniteit met het onderzoeksterrein van het project; 
  • uitstekende mondelinge en schriftelijke vaardigheden; 
  • goede communicatieve en sociale vaardigheden; 
  • sterke organisatorische eigenschappen, doelgerichtheid en doorzettingsvermogen. 
Je bent:
  • een doorzetter, die ambitieus en doelgericht te werk gaat;

Aanstelling
Het betreft een tijdelijke aanstelling van 26.6 uur per week voor de duur van 3 jaar. Het salaris bedraagt, afhankelijk van opleiding en relevante werkervaring, minimaal €3.545 en maximaal €4.852 bruto per maand bij een volledige aanstelling van 38 uur per week (conform schaal 11, Cao Nederlandse Universiteiten). Daarnaast bieden we een uitgebreid pakket secundaire arbeidsvoorwaarden, waaronder een ruime vakantieregeling en een eindejaarsuitkering.

There is a vacancy for a (permanent) professor at the Centre for the Science of Learning and Technology (SLATE) within the learning sciences, with a focus on using digital data and learning analytics to understand learning, teaching, and creative knowledge processes.

 

About SLATE

The Centre for the Science of Learning & Technology (SLATE) is a learning sciences research centre contributing to international research and national competence development on the use of data and data analytic approaches (e.g., learning analytics) to understand learning, teaching, and creative knowledge processes. Hosted at the Faculty of Psychology, SLATE opened in January 2016 with funding from the Norwegian Ministry of Education and the University of Bergen, and has a broad mandate as a national competence and research centre for learning analytics.

 

SLATE’s research fall into four themes: Learning Analytics, Creativity, Learning & Technology, Assessment Innovation & Theoretical Pedagogy, and Emerging Technologies and their Underlying Data. Research projects involve both national and international research partners. They span from research overviews and systematic reviews to infrastructures for educational data and projects using learning analytics to better understand learning and creative knowledge processes. We are a dynamic and including milieu of 20 persons, including faculty, researchers, adjuncts, postdocs, PhD and Masters students, and support staff.

 

With this position we will strengthen our research related to learning-centred analytics, and in particular research on using various types of digital data (e.g., log files, sensor data, eye-tracking data, audio, video, fMRI, etc.) to give insight into learning, teaching, and creative knowledge processes. The successful applicant will also be involved in the development of a teaching portfolio for the Centre.

 

Work tasks/research field:

  • Contribute to the further development of SLATE
  • Collaborate with national and international partners on research on learning analytics, educational data science, and the use of digital data to understand learning, teaching, and creative knowledge processes
  • Contribute to developing new applications for external funding from the Norwegian research council, EU, and other possible funding sources
  • Contribute to the development of a teaching portfolio for SLATE within educational data science, learning analytics, cognitive science, technology enhanced learning, or other relevant themes
  • Teaching and Masters/PhD student supervision 

Qualifications and personal qualities:

  • A doctoral degree in a relevant field for the position, such as learning sciences, cognitive science, educational data science, learning analytics, educational psychology
  • Expertise in relevant research methods for dealing with process data and digital traces of learning (process oriented research methods)
  • Extensive experience from scientific publishing, research collaboration, and research leadership
  • Experience with research application development
  • Research administrative experience
  • Ability to work independently and in a structured manner, and have the ability to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team
  • Experience from teaching and supervision of Masters and PhD students
  • Basic pedagogical training is a requirement for the position (the successful applicant will be offered such training if this requirement is not met prior to employment)
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory

The teaching language will normally be Norwegian although some courses are offered in English. The successful applicant will be required to teach in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language within two years of being appointed.

The FSE Fellowship programme
Our unique FSE fellowship programme offers temporary positions for talented junior researchers who want to further develop both their research and teaching skills. You will have an appointment for four years during which you can do challenging research, have various teaching responsibilities (approximately 30% of the time), and be offered opportunities for training and career orientation.
From the start, you will have a personal Work and Development Plan (WDP) that describes the specific research, teaching and training activities that you will undertake. You will receive didactic training in your first year and have the opportunity to obtain a University Teaching Qualification. In addition to the yearly Result and Development Interviews with your supervisors, you will have a yearly meeting with a career counsellor to discuss your career development and plans.
A personal budget of a € 1,000 per year is dedicated for additional training and career activities.

Job description
The fellow is expected to conduct research in mathematics of physics undergraduate education, related to the teaching task. The research will contribute to innovation of teaching or assessment methods.
You will teach in lectures and coordinate tutorials in basic mathematics courses (calculus, linear algebra, skill courses) or in basic physics courses (mechanics and relativity, optics and waves, electricity and magnetism) at undergraduate level.
The position is embedded in the Institute for Science Education and Communication (ISEC).

Qualifications
You have:
• a PhD, obtained no longer than 3 years ago, preferably from another university than the University of Groningen
• a promising research record
• affinity with teaching; individuals with actual teaching experience will be favoured
• an excellent command of English.

Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a starting salary depending on the date you obtained your PhD and your postdoctoral years. The UFO-profile Researcher/Lecturer (scale 10) applies. In addition to the primary salary the University offers 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%:
• 0 years: € 3,255 gross per month for a fulltime position
• 1 year: € 3,389 gross per month for a fulltime position
• 2 years € 3,514 gross per month for a fulltime position
• 3 years € 3,637 gross per month for a fulltime position.

You will have an initial appointment of one year that will be extended by 3 years if you perform satisfactorily. The fellowship will not be extended after the four years period.
