Workshop Adaptive Training Systems

Adaptive training systems: implications for student learning

  • Dr. Saskia Brand-Gruwel (Open University, the Netherlands)
  • Prof. dr. Jeroen van Merriënboer (Maastricht University)
  • Prof. dr. Detlev Leutner van uni of Duisburg/Essen

Nowadays training systems need to be adaptive in order to meet the requirements for lifelong learning in a rapidly changing society. How should an adaptive training system be designed? How can students function optimally in an adaptive learning environment? In the workshop literature and research on the design of adaptive systems and learner control will be discussed. Furthermore, students learning skills (self-regulated and self-directed learning skills) required to make optimal use of these systems will be addressed. During the workshop students will work in small groups. Taking selected literature as starting point, students set up a research proposal (formulate research questions for future research and design studies to answer these questions). These proposals will be presented and discussed in the entire group.
